New Hope Shelter will soon have a new home in Cadillac.
The Cadillac City Council approved rezoning request to make it possible for the homeless shelter. The church of the Nazarene is selling the land to the New Hope Center.
Troy Baxter, board member for the center, says they hope to break ground on the building this fall. The city says they hope this brings families together and say this will save costs and provide a better facility.
“For the city it provides a central location. It provides that the residents would have to be away from the facility for two less hours a day and I think in general they’ll be able to provide in a better manner for the homeless residents,” John Wallace of Cadillac community development director said.
Right now the New Hope building allows for a maximum of 60 residents.
